Electromagnetic flowmeters are commonly used to measure flow in circulating cold and fresh water pipelines in utility systems.
These pipelines typically have small diameters, low pressures, and the circulating cold water often contains corrosive media such as chlorides.
Furthermore, the pipelines are often buried. Therefore, the selected flowmeter must be easy to install.
Electromagnetic flowmeters can be installed horizontally, vertically, or at any angle, offering high adaptability.
However, when selecting an electromagnetic flowmeter in this type of application scenario,
special attention should be paid to the following two points:
(1) It should be easy to maintain. It is recommended to use a split structure:
the sensor is installed in the process pipeline, and the converter can be installed near the instrument room,
with a distance of tens to hundreds of meters. This arrangement keeps the converter away from harsh environments such as moisture and corrosion,
making it easier to debug, set up and maintain electronic components.
However, it should be noted that the split installation has high requirements for the wiring of signal cables,
and it is easy to introduce interference if not handled properly.
(2) According to GB/T 4208-2017,
the enclosure protection level of electromagnetic flowmeters is divided into IP65 (water jet protection),
IP66 (strong water jet protection), IP67 (short-term water immersion protection), and IP68 (continuous water immersion protection).
Since circulating cold water and fresh water pipelines are mostly buried,
and sensors are usually installed in instrument wells and are exposed to humidity or water immersion for a long time,
sensors with a protection level of IP68 must be selected to ensure their long-term stable operation.
